On March 19-22, 2024, members of IntCDC, FoKUS, TIK and SimTech will jointly host a half-day Software Carpentry workshop (https://software-carpentry.org/).
Application is open for all doctoral researchers, students, and academic staff.

The Carpentries is a community initiative that provides programming tools for the daily routine of scientists. The content of the workshop will be as follows:

- Using the Unix shell
- Version control using Git
- Programming and creating diagrams with Python

The workshop will not only be about communicating fundamental programming skills, but also about how to automate and reproduce scientific processes as well as possible. After attending the workshop, you will be able to accomplish the following, for example:

- Automate repetitive tasks
- Establish a workflow for keeping track of your work
- Reproduce tabular data for analysis and visualization

The workshop is free of charge and be held in attendance and in English. If preferred by all participants of a course, it will be switched to German.
The number of participants is limited to 20 persons. The deadline for registration is Friday, 15.03.2024. For the break we will offer coffee, drinks, and some pastries.
In cooperation with GRADUS (The Graduate Academy of the University of Stuttgart), doctoral students receive 1 credit point (ECTS), all other participants receive a certificate of attendance

Vom 19.-22. März 2024 veranstalten Mitarbeiter von IntCDC, FoKUS, TIK und SimTech jeweils halbtags einen "Software Carpentry"-Workshop (https://software-carpentry.org/) für Doktoranden, Studierende und Mitarbeiter der Universität Stuttgart.

Die Carpentries sind eine Community-Initiative, die Handwerkszeug zur Programmierung im Forschungsalltag vermitteln. Inhalte des Workshops sind:

- Die Unix-Shell
- Versionskontrolle mit Git
- Programmieren und Diagramme erstellen in Python

Es geht im Workshop nicht nur darum, grundlegende Programmierfertigkeiten zu vermitteln, sondern auch darum, den Forschungsprozess so automatisiert und reproduzierbar wie möglich zu gestalten. Nach der Teilnahme an diesem Workshop werden Sie zum Beispiel in der Lage sein:

- repetitive Aufgaben zu automatisieren,
- einen Workflow aufzubauen, um die eigene Arbeit nachverfolgen zu können,
- tabellarische Daten reproduzierbar zu analysieren und zu visualisieren

Der Workshop ist kostenlos und wird vorzugsweise in Präsenz und auf Englisch stattfinden. Der Workshop wird auf Deutsch gehalten, wenn alle Teilnehmende eines Kurses diese Sprache bevorzugen.
Die Teilnehmerzahl ist auf 20 Personen pro Workshop begrenzt. Anmeldeschluss ist Freitag, der 15.03.2024. Für die Pause werden wir Kaffee, Getränke und etwas Gebäck bereitstellen.
In Kooperation mit GRADUS (Die Graduierten-Akademie der Universität Stuttgart) erhalten Promovierende 1 Credit Point (ECTS), alle anderen Teilnehmer erhalten eine Teilnahmebescheinigung.
