Die Veranstaltung gibt einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Arbeitsfelder der Bionik und legt einen Schwerpunkt auf Anwendungen in der Biomedizinischen Technik. Die Studierenden lernen die bionische Denkweise kennen und erhalten einen Einblick in das Potential der Bionik für Lösungen zu zentralen technische Problemen. Sie lernen aber auch die Grenzen des oft überschätzen Hoffnungsträgers Bionik kennen und lernen echte Bionik von Pseudobionik, Technischer Biologie und Bioinspiration zu unterscheiden.
